BEVPO

  • Type Spatially explicit transportation demand model

What problem is solves

The BEVPO model analyses the trips that are undertaken by battery Electric Vehicles (EVs) in various regions around the world. This in turn allows modelers to analyse the interactions of Battery EVs with local electricity grids. The novelty of this model comes with the option of considering spatio-temporal distributions of EVs. No other model can currently consider this with sufficient resolution in time and space. This model will mainly serve distribution system operators for electricity and urban planners to jointly optimize their policies for distributing, sizing and connecting charging stations to local electricity grids. With an increasing share of renewable energy sources, which is mostly about fluctuating wind and solar, policy makers and grid operators are then able to utilize EV battery capacities for a wide range of electricity system services, or at least count in the additional stresses that a large roll-out of these would cause to electricity grids through simultaneous and/or unexpected charging activities.
