The Nordic region has been a key innovator toward decarbonised energy systems for some time. It is reflected by, e.g., integration of electricity markets across of multiple countries and electrification of other sectors, like heating and transportation. Recently, institutional cooperation between five Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) in the climate and energy field has accelerated substantially. This has culminated in a Nordic pathway to carbon neutrality, which has made the region a frontrunner of the decarbonised energy systems.
